Five Lakes 1½ Stoke By Nayland 5½
We arrived at 5 Lakes (eventually) to be greated by a beautiful warm sunny day but with a significent wind.
Game 1 – Captain Ian birdied the 1st then lost his ball on the next 2 holes! No problem Adrian then played out of his skin. He went through the green in 2 on the 18th par 5! Suffice to say they dovetailed well winning 6 & 4
Game 2 – Andy and myself enjoyed a tight but friendly match going 4 up after 10 then succumbed to a fightback leaving us 1 up playing the 18th. It was no problem for Andy who produced the birdie of the day to let us win 2up.
Game 3 - Malcolm played like a pro and carried Mike all the way – his words. Their opponents thought his handicap ‘generous’. They won 5 & 4
Game 4 – Ian and Tony enjoyed a solid round with Ian described as very steady with a great short game by his opponents.Tony had a ‘Trigger’ moment on the index 1 hole losing his trolley- eventually found still running in a hedge! Won 4 & 3
Game 5 – Dave and Ray dovetailed well and were never behind in the match winning 6 & 5. Dave though lost his ball on the 18th and is rumoured to be organising a search party of our whole section!
Game 6 – Roy and Dick had a close match with there never being more than 2 holes either way in it. All 4 were on the 18th in 4 equidistant from the hole so in the spirit of the match all agreed to a half. Match halved.
Game 7 – Brian Castle unfortunately had to play on his own as his partner didn’t turn up. Despite this he was 3 up after 10. Pressure told though as he eventually lost 2 down. His compensation was nearest the the pin on the 8th. Well played sir. Lost 2 down.
Many thanks to Richard Middleton on his reporting of today’s match @ Five Lakes - thanks Richard
