Inter Club Match v Stowmarket - Constable Course - 19th June 2019

Stoke By Nayland         5½    Stowmarket      2½

Arriving at SBN with a light mist over the hills of the Constable course and the forecast of rain at some point provided the back drop to another fine win for SBN seniors.

Match 1 - Ian Bickers and Mal Jones

Ian & Mal flew out of the blocks to a 4 hole lead after 5 holes. Ian’s points tally of 22 points on the front nine put them 6 up at the turn, and the match was soon over shaking hands on the 12th green  winning 8 & 6.

Match 2 - Pete Robins and Brian Castle

This was a tight match with never more than 2 holes between us. Brian used his shots well and led us past the Halfway hut 2 up. Stomarket players Ivor and David fought back well on the back nine.  Matched Halved.

Match 3 - Allen Smith and Richard Saunders

A very close encounter with all players contributing to an excellent match. Richard and Norman (Stowmarket) using their shots extremely well throughout. Matched Halved

Match 4 - Dave Austin and David Wyllie

The two David’s played well but struggled to find an answer to John Bell’s use of the shots he received and his red hot putter.   Losing 2 & 1

Match 5 - Roger Davies and Alan Hands

Alan & Roger were victorious in this enjoyable low scoring match. Alan ( Stowmarket) was nearest the pin on the 8th to win a bottle of wine. The Bard missed an eagle putt on the 11th but with another 2 putts walked away with a par. Stowmarket boys thought the course was excellent and the rain stayed away.   Winning 3 & 2

Match 6 - Neil Ashwell and David Seymour

David was using his new Scotty Cameron putter which proved to be a sound investment six up at the turn and the opposition questioning if the putter was legal. An enjoyable round was had by all shaking hands on the 13th. Winning 6 & 5

Match 7 - Roy Sims and Terry Mitchell

The match was played in excellent spirit apart from Roy who just had to hit the glory shot with an eagle on the 17th. This was after Roy & Terry had gone 3 up on the on the 11th, despite these set backs the Stowmarket lads Pete & Mike fought their way back into the game to earn an honourable half. Match Halved.

Match 8 - Norman Davidson and Steve Stacey

Four up after 4 before Stowmarket began to fight back. Norman had a birdie on the 8th and finished front nine 4 up. Nothing between the pairings for the next 4 holes and the match concluded on the 14th   Winning 5 & 4

Norman thought he had won nearest the pin on the 13th until the ball spun back 5 foot !!  Did he hole the birdie ?
