Inter Club Match v Brett Vale - 14th May 2019

Brett Vale     5      STOKE BY NAYLAND      3

On a bright and sunny May morning Bret Vale and SBN met to do battle on the fairways, greens, bunkers, woods, ponds and other places that forsaken golf ball can go…..

Bret Vale was in good condition lush but slow greens and thick greenfairways, nicely set up for a enjoyable days golf.

1. Ian Bickers and Pete Hele lost 6 & 5, in Ian’s words “not many highlights” but our esteemed captain won nearest the pin on the 16th first out and no one else got closer.

2. Yours truly and Alan Hands won 1 up. A titanic battle with 9 holes halved, going down the 18th we were all square.  Alan secured the win with a 5 for 4, afterwards saying “oh dear I should have missed the put for a gentleman’s half” …. no gentlemen out there today Alan…!

3. Roy Sims & Ed Smith lost 3 and 1 Ed’s words “my only highlight was a Birdie on the 14th the rest is best forgotten”.

4. David Wyllie and Ray Ludlam lost 5 and 4

5. Keith Prichard and John Russell lost 7 and 5. Keith said “my main job today was stopping John from committing suicide” well done Keith job successfully done. John was able to enjoy his chips, peas chicken pie and Eaton Mess and forget his round of golf.

6. Howard Emerson and vice captain Terry Mitchell Won 2 and 1. It was good of Terry to join the seniors today a break from his heavy golfing schedule, apparently this was his 10th game of golf in 2 weeks, Terry even pros don’t play that much…!

7. Mike Moore and Brian Castle lost 5 v 4. Brian said “I’m not used to giving so many shots away…even a birdie wasn’t good enough to win on the 9th “ (hole halved). Mike said in typical premiere league manager style “Brian done good today”

8. Andy Higginson and Richard Middleton won 9 and 5.  Andy was on fire with 3 birdies on the front 9 (starting on the 17th) ably supported by Richard who dove tailed nicely with his partner. What a win I hear you say until I tell you they played a single golfer David Brothers who’spartner let him down. I did say not many gentlemen out on the course today!

Many thanks to John a Parkinson on his recollections of today’s match against Brett Vale - thanks John.
